What is Skax? top
Skax is a new way to send faxes with Skype. It's an ideal service for
people who fax infrequently because it's a "pay as you go" with a low
per page rate.
Are you associated with Skype? top
Although Skax works with Skype, it is a separate entity from Skype.
Skax uses Skype's Extras (Plug In platform) to provide services to
Skype users.
Does Skax allow me to receive faxes as well? top
Not yet. Currently Skax only allows for outbound faxes to any fax
number in the world. We are working on a version that allows you to
receive faxes so we'll keep you informed as we finalize that version.
Do you have a Skax version for Mac/Linux/etc? top
Skax currently only works for Windows operating systems through
Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you'd like us to work on a different
OS, pls drop us a line and let us know ;-)
Do you use Skype's data channel to transmit information? top
No. Because Skype's data channels are optimized for voice traffic, Skax
uses its own data channel to transmit data information to make sure
that there is maximum quality of service in the data transmitted.
Do you store my faxes somewhere? top
Only briefly. We need to store your documents in a queue to fax them
out. However, once they are faxed, those documents are removed from our
servers and no one can see them.
Will Skax work inside my firewall? top
It definitely should. Please let us know with the form above if you're having trouble here.
Do I need to have SkypeOut to use Skax? top
No. Skax uses its own Skax credits (which are different from the Skype credits for SkypeOut).
What is the difference between Skype credits and Skax credits? top
Skype credits allow you to use Skype's SkypeOut service to call mobile
phones and landlines. Skax credits allow you to send faxes with Skax.
Can Skax use my Skype credits? top
No, at least not yet. Skype's billing platform is not open yet to allow
for third parties (like Skax) to deduct money from your Skype credits.
I was charged more than the stated per page rate. Why was that? top
What most likely happened was that the receiving line (the fax to where
you are sending your fax to) took too long to receive a page. As
indicated in our pricing section: 'Pages whose duration is up to one
minute are charged as one page. Pages whose duration is longer than one
minute are charged by duration in six second increments at one-tenth of
the per-page cost.'
If you feel that this was not the case, pls drop us a line and we'll
look into this. Trust us -- we're not out to trick people ;-)
How long do my Skax credits last? top
To provide a good experience, we use the same policy that Skype uses:
The Skax credit balance expires
after 180 days of inactivity. As soon you send a new fax your
expiration date will reset to 180 days.
30 days before your expiry date Skax will send an IM to your skype
account to remind you to send a fax so that you do not lose your Skax
credits.
